Music by Florida Environmentalist and Singer/Songwriter Grant Livingston

Join us and learn about South Florida native plants and wildlife, how to attract birds and butterflies to your yard, landscaping with native plants, our natural areas, the environment, and more.

There’s much more at this large park, especially for children: enjoy the Farm Village, which provides an opportunity to learn about Miami-Dade County's agricultural past. It’s a replica of the kinds of farms that once dotted three-quarters of the region. There’s even a barn with farm animals you can visit.

Tom Sawyer's Play Island is a fort-style tree house with climbers, spinners, slides, balance beams, swings, and musical instruments to play. The playground is designed for children ages 2-12 and is fully accessible.

Bring your family and friends to enjoy this free day of fun and learning! FREE! Rain or Shine!

Songs and Stories at the Kampong

December 6, 2025
Saturday
6:00 pm

Special event at a special location!  On Saturday, December 6, at 6pm, “Songs & Stories of Our National Parks” comes to The Kampong in Coconut Grove.

The Kampong was the home of world-renowned plant explorer Dr. David Fairchild.  It was in his living room that Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Ernest Coe, and others met to discuss the creation of Everglades National Park.  The park was established on December 6, 1947, so this event is on the 78th "birthday" of the park.  The house and gardens are a beautifully preserved piece of history.  Along with locations in Hawaii, the Kampong now forms part of the National Tropical Botanical Garden.

Songs and Stories of Our National Parks is a collaboration between award-winning storyteller and retired National Park Ranger Gary Bremen and Florida's Historian-in-Song Grant Livingston. From Yellowstone, Mammoth Cave and Grand Canyon to Gettysburg, Selma and Stonewall, Gary shares deeply personal stories from visits to over 270 national parks, accompanied by folk songs of the times and Grant’s own original songs. Sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, the program leaves audiences wanting to create their own National Park memories.

Having performed at parks from coast-to-coast, Gary and Grant are bringing their program to The Kampong on Saturday, December 6 at 6:00 pm.

Tickets are available at https://ntbg.org/events/songs-and-stories-of-our-national-parks/or by calling (305) 442-7169.
